Safety stirrups have been designed to release the foot as quickly as possible in the event of an accident.
There are a variety of designs and mechanisms:
PEACOCK STIRRUPS
Peacock Stirrups have a rubber band on the outside and are the most traditional type of safety stirrup (Only recommended for children).
SHAPED IRONS
These stirrups have a distinctive bend, which prevents the foot from becoming caught when falling.
BREAKAWAY STIRRUPS
Breakaway Stirrups are amongst the most popular stirrup irons for adults. They release the foot when there is a specified amount of uneven pressure in the event of a fall.
wear hi-Visibility
DID YOU KNOW… Hi-Viz should have a safety standard!
The standards are in place to guarantee that the garments do what the manufacturer claims they will do.
They ensure that the colour of the Hi-Vis item can be seen by day, yet the standard of retro-reflective strips will make the wearer more visible in the dark when illuminated by light.
Wearing Hi-Vis can give drivers an extra 3 seconds of reaction time when seeing a horse!
