Washing Instructions:
- Machine wash max 30°C, gentle spin
- Wash using a non biological washing detergent
- DO NOT tumble dry
- DO NOT leave in strong sunlight
- You won’t need additional materials like an adhesive bandage to keep the boot in place, as the hoof boot is designed to do this.
- Fully unzip the boot and open it as much as possible.
- Lift the horse’s foot and slide the boot over the front of the hoof. Use the ‘V’ shaped indent at the front of the boot as a guide to find the middle.
- After pulling the boot onto the foot, allow the horse to put his foot down. This will help push the foot further into the boot.
- Ensure the boot is centered on the foot. You may find it helpful to lift the foot again and check that the moulded sole is straight. If it looks crooked, unzip the boot, lift the foot, and gently swivel the boot until it’s aligned. The ‘V’ indent will help guide you.
- Check that the edge of the foot reaches the side of the boot, and ensure the bulbs of the heels are enclosed within the moulded area and not hanging over.
- When satisfied with the fit, pull up the zip, making sure it is covered by the neoprene zip cover.
- The stretch neoprene upper should fit snugly around the pastern area to prevent bedding or mud from entering the boot. If the upper feels too tight, you may struggle to zip it up fully, indicating you have the wrong size.
- Before turning the horse out, make sure he is comfortable with the boot. If he seems nervous, walk him gently around his stable to help him adjust. He will soon realise it is comfortable and won’t restrict his movement.
Tips for Fitting
When fitting the boot, consider facing the front of the horse and resting his leg on your knee, similar to how a farrier holds the foot when shoeing (see fig A). This position allows you to look down the front of the boot and use the ‘V’ indent as a guide to ensure the boot fits straight. Make sure your horse is securely tied and standing calmly during this process.
When using the correct size, the boot should fit snugly around the foot, the bulbs of the heel, and up the pastern. If your horse has an abscess or bruised foot, the soft padding in the sole will provide immediate relief by reducing pressure.
If you plan to turn your horse out to pasture while wearing the Hoof Boot, ensure the area is well-drained and as level as possible to minimise discomfort.
If the zip is on the inside of the boot and your horse is sensitive, thin-skinned, or prone to brushing, consider providing extra protection for the opposite pastern. You can use adhesive bandage around the pastern, but a better option is Woof Wear Pastern Wraps.
